Office Assistant

We are searching for seasonal office assistant and administration candidates for full-time and part-time positions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to answering phones, heavy data entry using Microsoft Excel, time entry management, email correspondence, file maintenance, and other clerical support as needed.

This fast-paced, team environment is looking for applicants with strong Microsoft Office Suite experience. Accounting or QuickBooks and payroll experience preferred.

Some weekend work is required during the Harvest season.

Pay will be based on professional experience.

Field Supervisor

Mechanic/Welder

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanic/Welder to join our team part-time or full-time. The ideal candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least 1 year of automotive repair experience. A driver's license is required for this position. ASE certification is preferred.

Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance and repairs on company-owned vehicles and equipment. Welding experience is a plus. The preferred candidate will be able to diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical issues, have strong attention to detail and work independently.

Tree Contract Haulers

We are currently seeking experienced and reliable Tree Contract Haulers to join our team for the upcoming holiday season. We have multiple openings available for individuals who own a 3500 or larger truck and are interested in hauling trees. This temporary position will run from late October to early December.

Responsibilities: As a Tree Contract Hauler, your primary responsibility will be transporting Christmas trees from our farm to designated locations. Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Inspecting trees for quality and ensuring proper handling during transportation
  • Maintaining accurate records of deliveries, including any damages or discrepancies
  • Communicating effectively with the farm and customers regarding delivery schedules and any issues that arise
  • Adhering to all safety regulations and traffic laws while operating your truck

Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Own a 3500 or larger truck capable of hauling Christmas trees
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Previous experience in tree hauling or a similar transportation role is preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle physical work
  • Excellent communication and time management skills

Property Maintenance Technician

We are seeking candidates with groundskeeping and property maintenance experience.  Duties may include but are not limited to mowing, housing maintenance, and building improvements. 

Full-time, part-time, temporary, and flexible schedule positions are available.

Nutrient/Pest Control Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise in nutrient and pest management to join our team. The technician would be responsible for our IPM Program to include nutrient and pest control in Christmas tree production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Scouting and IPM inspection of farms to include soil sampling, tissue sampling, and inspection for pests.

·         Analyze and determine nutrient and pest control needs based on sampling and analysis.

·         Assure proper application of needed materials according to label and to all government regulations.

·         Responsible for employee safety.

·         Assure property and equipment are maintained to specified requirements.

·         Maintain all records as required by Federal, State, and Local regulations.

·         Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Skills/Requirements:

  • Certified Pesticide applicator in NC and/or VA
  • Knowledge of pesticide, fertilizer, and herbicide products and calibration
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with management and employees, as well as work independently.
  • Agriculture experience in related fields preferred.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, twist repeatedly, use hand and power equipment, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Applications.

The ideal candidate should have excellent planning and scheduling abilities, and the ability to manage both short and long-term goals. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required. A valid driver's license is required for this position. The work assignment may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Crop Production Manager

Shatley Farms is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Crop Production Manager to join our successful Christmas tree business.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing crop production operations and optimizing productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Crop Production Manager will be responsible for ensuring that safety and environmental regulations are followed, and that all employees receive appropriate training and development.  Additionally, the successful candidate will manage the improvement of productivity and quality while reducing the cost of production.  Other duties include:

 

  • Operating and maintaining production equipment
  • Performing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) scouting to include soil sampling, tissue sampling, and inspections for pests
  • Performing other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have proven organizational, leadership, and motivational ability, as well as experience with farm equipment and agricultural production methods.  Additionally, the successful candidate will have the ability to implement best practices to improve productivity, quality of crops, and reduce overall cost.  Experience with Lean, 5S, and Value Stream Analysis is a plus.  Other qualifications include:

 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • NC and/or VA Pesticide License
  • Minimum 2-year degree in Agriculture or Horticulture field
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred
